Isotope Separation: Fusion & Fission
For over three years AqGas has been conducting experiments with electrolysers and molecular sieves to concentrate and differentiate hydrogen isotopes. It is our aim that our equipment becomes the workhorse for isotope separation for fuel-cycle and detritiation systems within the fusion and fission sectors. The equipment's controls and materials are designed around three central pillars: having functional safety as a guiding priority, achieving extreme longevity and finally to require a low energy input compared to alternative separation technologies. The result is a continuous process where heavy isotopes are selectively sieved, their concentration monitored and then are harvested for downstream usage.
Using our own patented flow-through electrolysers AqGas has succeeded in reaching high separation factors between isotopes using our simple, scalable techniques. In mid-2024 these remarkably high separation factors were achieved within gaseous hydrogen streams. This means the scope of our technology encompasses water detritylation, active gas handling, fuel cycle recovery and legacy fission water treatment.   Please directly contact us for further information around isotopic separation and for a tailored solution to your hydrogen isotope management
